Kelana Jaya, 27 February 2018: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) today announced a joint partnership with Agensi Antidadah Kebangsaan (AADK) at an MoU signing in MAB Academy, Kelana Jaya. The MoU reinforces the Group’s efforts in championing a Drug Free Workplace (DFWP) and is part of a Zero Tolerance Policy towards alcohol and drug offences.
The event was attended by Deputy Home Minister of Malaysia Yang Berhormat Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed, accompanied by MAG Chairman Tan Sri Md Nor Yusof to witness the signing between MAG and AADK.
Speaking at the event, MAG Chief Executive Officer, Izham Ismail said, “The Group is committed to upkeep the highest standards of safety throughout the organization. This applies across all of our subsidiaries – Malaysia Airlines, MABkargo, MASwings, MAB Academy, Firefly and Aerodarat.
“We are in strict compliance with safety audits in Malaysia and internationally, through the Air Operator Certification Audit (AOC) and the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), and it is our responsibility to ensure all our employees adhere to this policy,” he added. Izham continued, “This year, MAG further affirms its commitment against these serious offences by implementing the Zero Tolerance Policy on the consumption, possession, distribution or selling of drugs and alcohol by any individual at the workplace. The policy is also in line with the Directive from the Director General of Department of Civil Aviation on the Alcohol and Drugs Testing Requirement.”

Drug addiction is the phenomenon of global challenges that is affecting the society in various perspectives. To address drug abuse issues among the employees, there are a number of efforts that employer can exercise. Employers should provide a written policy on drug abuse at their work place that indicates the prohibition of drug use and drug abuse at work place. This written policy must be made understandable amongst all employees. Secondly, employers and supervisors should be on the lookout for signs of drug and alcohol abuse. Thirdly, employers should take prompt action on any of the employees manifesting the symptoms of a drug abusers by providing helps and assistance and finally employers can develop a working environment and ecosystem that is supportive and accommodative to all employees to seek help and assistance in relation to their personal issues and problems that eventually might lead to addiction. In other words preventive measures is always better that cure.” The MoU will see MAG working together with AADK in providing the Group with necessary expertise, manpower and technical requirement in conducting awareness programmes including random drug-tests on MAG employees. As part of the awareness campaign MAG will be enhancing the visibility of its zero tolerance policy via displays on LED screens at suitable locations in all the Group’s premises throughout Malaysia.
