Malaysia Airlines Celebrates Crew Graduation

Kelana Jaya, 11 August 2018: Malaysia Airlines yesterday celebrated the graduation of 111 cabin crew and pilots at a ceremony held at Malaysia Airlines Berhad Academy, Kelana Jaya. Amongst the graduates, were Malaysia Airlines’ first female pilots, Captain Pearl Wendy Mak, Second Officer Wang Wen Chien and Second Officer Foo Hooi Wen.

All graduates had undergone intensive training in their respective fields with key emphasis on safety. The 91 cabin crew undertook 82 days of service and safety training whilst the 20 cadet pilots completed 300 days of various training programmes and examinations to earn their license.

The graduates were presented with their certificates by Malaysia Airlines Group Chief Executive Officer Izham Ismail as well senior management team of the airline.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Izham Ismail said, “Malaysia Airlines is more than just an airline, it is the national carrier and holds a special place in the heart of every Malaysian. In recruiting both pilots and cabin crew, we looked out for extraordinary individuals who would be able to stand tall and fly high with the airline. Empowered men and women, who think of themselves as more than just pilots, hosts and hostesses. Since late 2017, we embarked on a search for ambassadors of Malaysian Hospitality and future Flight Commanders. Those selected were meticulously picked from the thousands that applied, because we saw that they had it in them to represent the nation worldwide in carrying the attributes of Malaysian Hospitality.”

Izham also added, “Malaysia Airlines is committed in bringing continuous improvement on our in-flight services, delivered by the best trained crew, which is critical for our future competitive advantage and success. We are confident that with the commitment, determination, focus and team effort from all within the Malaysia Aviation Group, we will be able to regain our past accolades as the ‘World’s Best Cabin Staff’ and ‘World’s Best Airline’”.

“I am very proud that for the first time in Malaysia Airlines, we have three amazing, strong and resilient women as graduating as pilots today. It is my hope that the future of Malaysia Airlines includes many more female Captains flying our aircraft and making the country proud.”

Special awards were presented to each batch of candidates during the graduation for the Best Trainee of the batch.

To date, Malaysia Airlines has a total number of 2286 cabin crew and 927 pilots operating its fleet of B737-800, A330-300, A330-200, A350-900 and the A380-800.
