Malaysia Airlines’ Group Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer, Lau Yin May said, “Penang has always been a popular holiday destination for many Malaysians, as the island is home to beautiful landscapes, pristine beaches and amazing attractions which offer unique and unforgettable experiences. In fact, the oldest sections of George Town were named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to their unique cultural and architectural properties, and are home to the largest collection of pre-war architecture in the Southeast Asia region. So, from solo travelers, families on a weekend getaway, nature and food lovers, to millennials who are looking for Instagram-worthy places, Penang surely tops the list!”
“We are confident this collaboration with industry players such as PGT will encourage Malaysians to ‘Fly Malaysia’ and travel more to discover the hidden gems located in our very own backyard. Not only that, but they can fly and explore these beautiful sights and attractions with peace of mind thanks to the enhanced safety and hygiene measures throughout their seamless end-to-end customer journey with Malaysia Airlines.
MHholidays is not only committed in putting together the best travel deals with value-added benefits for our customers, but we are also aware of our role in connecting people and places with the very best of Malaysian Hospitality. From holidays to business travel, we have more than 5,000 resorts and hotels ranging from basic homestays to super luxurious getaways located in metropolitan hubs, alongside beachfronts and lush rainforests, or nestled in the highlands to suit your travel needs. We will also be adding more features along the way to provide other products such as attractions, tours and transfers,” said Lau.
According to Mr Ooi Chok Yan, Penang Global Tourism CEO, “After the announcement of the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO), we saw an encouraging figure increase in the number of people travelling to Penang, in need of a change of scenery or to escape from their hometown.
Penang is a strategic domestic destination located only one hour’s flight away from Kuala Lumpur and a gateway for the northern region. We are optimistic that the collaboration with MHholidays would help to accelerate the recovery process of Penang tourism as it gives tourists the convenience of choosing their own holiday package of flights and hotels.
This partnership also creates more opportunity for visitors to discover the multifaceted aspects of Penang including the unique landscapes of Penang’s Balik Pulau and the mainland, and also the smaller islands surrounding Penang, which are some of the newer experiences that we are promoting people to discover.
At the same time, I would also like to urge everyone to keep safe and follow all the SOPs and guidelines as the process of making tourism a safer journey is everyone’s responsibility, and requires the cooperation of all in line with Penang’s Responsible Tourism campaign launched recently,” said Ooi.
Malaysia Airlines has increased its domestic flight frequencies to Penang from three weekly flights in June and July, to daily flights in August to facilitate passengers’ travel. The airline will be increasing the frequency for up to three times daily in September 2020.
