Malaysia Aviation Group Partners MERCY Malaysia to Mobilise Aid to Global Communities

KLIA, 1 April 2022: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) and MERCY Malaysia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on a project called ‘Change for Humanity’ to jointly organise fund-raising activities and mobilise resources for various community-based and organisational initiatives by MERCY Malaysia for the sustainability of humanitarian aid across the globe.

As the Official Airline Partner for MERCY Malaysia, Malaysia Airlines, supported by sister airlines Firefly, MASwings, AMAL and MAB Kargo, will provide logistical support through its cargo shipment and commercial flights to facilitate the movement of goods and volunteers for global and domestic relief efforts. The parties will also join forces for volunteerism initiatives with MAG providing hands-on assistance via its in-house volunteers MHRangers, to support MERCY Malaysia’s programmes in Malaysia and abroad.

Through supporting the ‘Change for Humanity’ partnership, Malaysia Airlines will contribute proceeds from its ticket sales to MERCY Malaysia, elevating its role as a responsible corporate citizen and flag bearer of Malaysia. Malaysia Airlines also welcomes passengers to play their part in supporting global charitable efforts as the airline provides an opportunity for passengers to participate in the act of kindness regardless of distance by contributing their donations directly to MERCY Malaysia.

The MoU was inked recently by the Group Chief Sustainability Officer of MAG, Philip See and Director, Strategic Development & Planning of MERCY Malaysia, Zuraidah Mian, and was witnessed by the Group Chief Executive Officer of MAG, Captain Izham Ismail and President of MERCY Malaysia, Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus.

Philip See, commented, “This partnership reactivates a long-lasting relationship with MERCY Malaysia. We believe that in order to meet our sustainability goals, we must strive to build deep partnerships with civil society and NGOs in order to deliver a positive impact for communities around Malaysia and across the globe.

Through this partnership with MERCY Malaysia, we hope to support just causes and to provide humanitarian assistance in times of crisis as we work tirelessly to impact lives and connect communities for the better.

Dato’ Dr. Ahmad Faizal Mohd Perdaus, said, “The signing of this MoU signifies MERCY Malaysia’s further commitment to this partnership which started way back in 2004. In the Malaysia Aviation Group, we have found a partner that pushes us to be better in what we do - delivering meaningful humanitarian action and response.

The holistic approach and programs MERCY Malaysia undertake are aimed at building communities’ preparedness and resilience to shocks in a more sustainable, impactful and synergistic way therefore improving the effectiveness of humanitarian and development aid efforts.”

Since the launch of the MAG Sustainability Blueprint in April 2021, MAG continues to accelerate the agenda in all sectors and influence positive change in the name of sustainability through various initiatives, including supporting four of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), namely Goal 5 (Gender Equality), Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 13 (Climate Action).
