UnDiscover Australia specifically targets high value travellers in Malaysia and aims to challenge perception by showcasing unusual, unfamiliar and unexpected attractions and experiences. The campaign plays on some of the popular misconceptions about Australia highlighted by research carried out locally, showing that there is much more to Australia than the typical stereotypes of koalas, kangaroos, the outback and well-known icons.
“Malaysia is one of Australia’s most important tourism markets – last year saw more than 400,000 Malaysians visiting Australia. We know that fashionability plays a big part in destination choice, particularly amongst travellers from this region and one of the challenges we constantly face is that people feel they know everything about us,” Mr O’Sullivan said.
“This campaign will shine a spotlight on some of our undiscovered and hidden holiday gems, showing there’s much more to Australia than just our well-known icons. Think Australia is only about beaches or just a daytime destination? We have Victoria’s Silo Art Trail in the hinterland of the Grampians region and Western Australia’s famous pink lake, Lake Hillier which you can fly over for amazing views. For night owls, the upcoming Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour is set to deliver landmark musical West Side Story against the backdrop of the magnificent Sydney Opera House. It’s surprising and delightful experiences such as these that we will be seeking to highlight through this campaign,” he said.
Malaysia Aviation Group Chief Revenue Officer, Ignatius Ong, said, “Tourism Australia has been an important partner for Malaysia Airlines since 2009 and to celebrate this strong and long-standing partnership, we are delighted to jointly announce the ‘UnDiscover Australia with Malaysia Airlines’ campaign.
This special collaboration will see Malaysia Airlines working closely with Tourism Australia on various marketing and promotional activities to attract more visitors to Australia and to experience the inimitable Malaysian Hospitality via Malaysia Airlines’ latest products and services, superior inflight features including lie flat seats on business class, inflight entertainment, and a wide variety of food incorporating the elements of best of Malaysia aimed at enhancing our passenger’s travel experience.”
This collaboration will also further strengthen Malaysia Airlines’ proposition of being the preferred way to fly to, from and around Malaysia.”
At the campaign launch, Tourism Australia and Enrich, Malaysia Airlines’ frequent flyer programme, also unveiled the latest video series under the ‘Enrich Hearts Australia’ programme which features selected Enrich members getting to ‘undiscover’a different side of Melbourne, Victoria. The members had the opportunity to enjoy a winter holiday, complete with the latest gourmet offerings in Melbourne and also explored regional Victoria’s Great Ocean Road and the Grampians. The videos will be available on all Malaysia Airlines in-flight entertainment system from February 2019 as well as the airlines’ YouTube channel.
